Vancouver 2010: Marie-Mai in Olympic shape!

Monday, March 1, 2010

“During rehearsals, I made sure to stay calm and in control. I kept telling myself this was a show like any other. But once I got on stage in front of 60,000 audience members and all the flashes going off, all my great preparation went out the window. I just let myself go and live the emotion. I lived this incredible moment at 110%. It was definitely one of the most intense sensations I have ever experienced in my life.” Thanks to Marie-Mai, the French language got a first class seat at the closing ceremony for the Vancouver Olympic games. Marie-Mai has managed to deliver a performance measuring up to the grandeur of this event, all the while staying true to her own style. This generation’s Quebecer pop rock icon has officially been around the world, and no less than 3 billion audience members were watching live to witness it. Her performance was covered by messages on Twitter, which spread all over the planet: from the United States, to Mexico, to France etc.

Marie-Mai was therefore on the Olympic stage last night for a closing ceremony unfalteringly Rock. She performed, live and with her signature energy, one of her biggest hits, Emmène-moi. Marie-Mai has proved once more that her talent knows no limits. But before all it is her audience the artist had in the back of her head: “Going back on it, singing in front of the world was less stressful for me than to sing in front of Quebecers- Marie-Mai admits. After all that has been said in the last few weeks about Quebec and the French in the games, I only had one wish: that Quebecers be proud of me!”

Marie-Mai thus rejoins Céline Dion in the pantheon of Quebecer singers having delivered a performance within the realm of official ceremonies at the Olympic games. A true honor and pride for the author, composer and performer, who will reunite with her fans at the Bell Center in Montreal, this upcoming 11th of June.
