Do You - Marie-Mai's first English single

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

The pop-rock icon for Quebec's new generation sweeps over Anglophone networks with a first title in English. A few weeks after her return from the Vancouver 2010 Olympic games, where she delivered a remarkable performance for the closing ceremonies, singer-songwriter Marie-Mai now introduces Do You, an excerpt from her 3rd album Version 3.0. For the artist, this means answering to numerous Anglophone fans who contacted her following her concert. Indeed, Marie-Mai received numerous messages both on her Twitter and Facebook from foreign fans, eager to hear more from the artist they were only beginning to discover!

"It's truly amazing to see that music can touch and bring together so man people, no matter what language we're singing-explains Marie-Mai. 'Do You' is a contagious tune. It's such a colorful song, full of joy and brightness. I often cover songs that a darker, with more intense subjects, so it's refreshing to come out with a jovial track and a text that will make you smile!"

A true Star in Quebec and already popular in France, the artist waited until the 3rd album to incorporate a first title in English; a track she hadn't failed to introduce to her Quebec fans, notably at the Bell Center within the framework of her tour and at the National Hockey League All Star Game, for which she was the guest star. As Francophone as she is, Marie-Mai has always loved composing in English. And it is not uncommon for her hits to have first been written in Shakespeare's language, and only translated in Molière's afterwards. Marie-Mai already disposes of several compositions in English that she has yet to present to the public. Instead, she is saving them for a possible Anglophone album. We have had the pleasure of hearing her sing along side her friend David Usher, or even the compilation celebrating Montreal's jazz festival's 30th anniversary, Nos stars célèbrent le jazz à Montréal.

The pop rock electro sound that made Marie-Mai's success was a result of her close collaboration to her partner, artist Fred St-Gelais. In fact, the latter just got nominated for the prestigious Juno Awards, in the Jack Richardson Producer of the Year category, for his work on Version 3.0.

Marie-Mai's style, sound, intensity, talent and contagious energy apparently know no limits. Her brilliant performance at the Olympic games and the feedback she received are definite proof of that. Do You is released at the perfect time, to respond to the requests of this new audience, already under her charm.
