Just a few short minutes ago, a genuine event unfolded on the stage of the Bell Centre. As we send out this news release, Marie-Mai is into the second half of the final performance of her Version 3.0 tour (50,000 tickets sold!). And to the immense surprise and delight of the 9,200 fans on hand, she just performed the hit Jet Lag, in a duet with none other than Simple Plan.
Marie-Mai couldn't hide her joy and emotion at the extraordinary pairing: "I've been a fan of Simple Plan since I was in high school. Sharing the stage with them is a dream come true for me! They are extremely generous guys. And our energy together onstage created an unforgettable moment for me."
"We loved being part of Marie-Mai's show in the Bell Centre tonight, and playing our new song 'Jet Lag' live for the first time in a duet with her. The audience reaction was incredible! We congratulate our dear friend Marie-Mai for her triumph tonight and thank her again for the invitation!" said the members of Simple Plan as they left the stage.
Jet Lag is the first single from Get Your Head On, the forthcoming album by Simple Plan, and the very first song performed in French by the group. Simple Plan personally chose to record the duet with Marie-Mai, who is already enjoying great success on radio in Quebec and France.
This final performance on the Version 3.0 tour is worthy of the greatest international shows presented in the Bell Centre, featuring dancers, pyrotechnics, lasers... Above all, of course, Marie-Mai's energy, enthusiasm and talent were the "special effects" setting the Bell Centre stage on fire tonight. In peak form and brilliantly accompanied onstage, Marie-Mai had the crowd in harmony with her all night during this final show. Preceding Simple Plan, David Usher and Marc Dupré joined the Female Singer of the Year honoree for duets, performing, respectively, hit single Je repars (11 weeks at #1 on the Top 100 BDS) and Si on changeait (#1 on the Top 100 BDS this week), co-written by Marie-Mai, Marc Dupré and Fred St-Gelais. An extraordinary evening that Marie-Mai's thousands of fans will never forget!
