Marie-Mai signs with Warner Music France

Friday, November 4, 2011

Montreal, Friday, November 4, 2011 - For the past few years now, Marie-Mai's career has enjoyed a blazingly successful rise, and she's just reached a new peak, vaulting the Québécois rockeuse into the ranks of international stardom. A few days after having won 2 Félix awards at the Gala de l'ADISQ, including Female Singer of the Year for the second consecutive year, Marie-Mai has just signed with Warner Music France, henceforth Marie-Mai's record label and distributor in Europe.

Thierry Chassagne, president of Warner Music France, declared "I am overjoyed at the thought of welcoming Marie-Mai into our family at Warner Music. Her talent and energy won us over, and we are eager to introduce this artist to an even larger audience in France and Europe."

Warner Music France will market a new album in the spring of 2012, conceived and created for the European market and gathering her biggest hits. Marie-Mai will return to France very soon to shoot a video for her first European single, Comme avant.

"For the first time in years, I can see all the possibilities available to me today," explains Marie-Mai. "I don't know what awaits me in France, but I want to believe that I have a chance. And I know that Warner believes that. It is essential to feel supported. Thanks to Thierry Chassagne, Alain Veille and their team of passionate music fans for offering me this incredible opportunity!"

Pierre Marchand, president of Musicor, Marie-Mai's record label in Quebec and Canada, is delighted by the agreement: "Musicor is extremely proud to watch Marie-Mai's rise on the international scene. After three platinum albums and an ever-growing audience in Quebec, Marie-Mai has acquired a musical and personal maturity that guarantee her success in Europe. Allied with the formidable Warner Music France team, these qualities should allow Marie-Mai to be successful in this new market."

Julie Snyder, president of Productions J, management and concert production company for Marie-Mai, is very proud: "In December 2002, I knocked on the door of a house Boucherville, where an 18-year-old girl was nestled in her bedroom. Nine years later, Marie-Mai never ceases to impress me with her talent, professionalism and loyalty. I would like to salute the colossal work of Marianik Giffard, who guides Marie-Mai's career with so much vision and passion. I also want to tip my cap to Marianik today."

For quite some time now, the team at Warner Music France, led by Alain Veille, chief executive officer of WEA (the international label behind Warner Music France), have closely followed the evolution of Marie-Mai from their side of the Atlantic. The immense success of Jet Lag, her duet with Simple Plan, only reinforced the high hopes and ambitions Warner Music France harbours for Marie-Mai... further bolstered by a first solo single, Comme avant, that has been in heavy rotation on a number of French radio stations, including NRJ, for the past 10 weeks. The song currently sits 18th on Pop Rock Yacast chart (the French equivalent of our BDS).

Onstage in Europe, Marie-Mai delivered a successful performance at the Parisian rock festival Rock en Seine alongside Simple Plan, and shared the stage with James Blunt and Jason Derulo at the NRJ Music Tour in Marseille.
